DESCRIPTION:Empowering Student Advocates\nThe EmPOWER Youth Summit brings together high school students from across the Omaha Metro for a day focused on mental wellness\, resilience\, and hope. The goal of the summit is for students to leave feeling informed\, supported\, and better equipped to advocate for themselves and others. \nThe agenda will include: \n\nKeynote Foster Huggins – podcaster and international speaker who will share his powerful message of hope\, resilience\, and the reminder that our lives are worth living.\nResource Fair featuring dozens of youth-serving organizations from across the Metro\nBreakout Sessions focused on empowering youth with tools to support mental wellbeing\, manage stress and anxiety\, navigate peer relationships\, and seek support for themselves or others\nLive Podcast Recording with keynote Foster Huggins featuring a local panel focused on mental health awareness\, normalizing help-seeking\, and recognizing when additional support may be needed\n\nThis event is free to all schools and attendees. The summit is funded by The Kim Foundation and many generous community sponsors. Lunch\, snacks\, and an event t-shirt are included! \nAll Metro Area high schools are invited to bring up to 20 students to the summit along with at least two school chaperones. Inspired by the loss of their daughter\, Ella\, they channeled their personal tragedy into a mission of hope\, connection\, and life-saving education. \nMartha spent over 20 years as a classroom educator before stepping away in 2022 to lead The Defensive Line’s prevention programming full-time as Chief Education Officer. Her deep understanding of schools and students drives the development of workshops and training that resonate in real-world classrooms. Chris brings more than three decades of leadership experience in the corporate world\, known for his warmth\, humor\, and powerful ability to connect with audiences. His advocacy for equitable mental health care is rooted in lived experience and fueled by an unwavering belief in the power of community. \nTogether\, Martha and Chris have spoken to audiences across the country—from school districts like Dallas ISD and Fort Worth ISD to national stages including the NFL Network\, ESPN\, CNN\, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. They are recipients of the 2019 AFSP Lifesaver Award and serve on multiple mental health-focused boards\, including the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Whether presenting at a healthcare summit or leading a suicide prevention training\, they speak with authenticity\, vulnerability\, and a shared belief that connection is our greatest source of strength. They live in Coppell\, Texas with their rescue dog Rebel and are proud parents to Solomon\, a professional football player. When not working\, they can be found cheering from the sidelines\, gardening\, running marathons\, or tuning in to a good podcast. \nMatthew “Dr. Matt” Zakreski\, PsyD is a high energy\, creative clinical psychologist and professional speaker who utilizes an eclectic approach to meet the specific needs of his neurodivergent clients. He is proud to serve the Gifted community as a consultant\, a professor\, an author\, and a researcher. He has spoken nearly a thousand times all over the world about supporting neurodivergent clients\, organizational wellness\, and mental health. Dr. Zakreski is a member of Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG)\, the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC)\, the New Jersey Association for Gifted Children (NJAGC)\, and Pennsylvania Association for Gifted Education (PAGE). Dr. Zakreski graduated from Widener University’s Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology (IGCP) in 2016. He is the co-founder of The Neurodiversity Collective\, LLC\, co-host of the podcast “Nerding out on Neurodiversity\,” and the author of the Neurodiversity Playbook: How Neurodivergent People Can Crack the Code of Living in a Neurotypical World. \n  \n \nBriana Richardson\, from the Bored Teachers comedy tour\, is an educator\, speaker\, and creator of Joy in Teaching. \nSince launching a social media and speaking career in 2020\, Bri has been on a mission to bring humor\, encouragement\, and a sense of community to educators everywhere. What began as a fun creative outlet quickly turned into something much greater—a movement that has touched the lives of millions of teachers who needed a reminder that they are seen\, valued\, and not alone in their struggles. Through relatable storytelling and an infectious energy\, Bri brings laughter to the everyday challenges of teaching while also providing the encouragement and validation educators so desperately need.
