Grant Spotlight: Carole’s House of Hope

Organization Name: Carole’s House of Hope

Mission: Carole’s House of Hope provides transitional living for young women and mothers who have aged out of foster care or otherwise experiencing homelessness.

Funded Program Description: Carole’s House of Hope, located in Omaha, NE, is a transitional living home serving young women and mothers, with up to two children. Many participants are placed here, transitioned from a program, at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness. We offer a supportive, home-like environment, individual rooms, spacious kitchen, common area spaces and beautiful outdoor surroundings with areas for the children to play. Our structured program provides participants with tools and skills to address building stable living environments, enhancing parenting skills, developing their financial literacy, and improving their mental and physical health; all of which promote personal success and self-sufficiency.

Successes of Program or Inspirational Stories: One story of success this past year is about young woman who came to CHH on probation and with an open Juvenile case, working toward reunification with her daughter while also leaving the violent relationship she was in with her daughter’s father. With her system involvement on her record, she struggled to obtain employment subsequently worried about how she would pay her fees at CHH. While job seeking, this young woman offered to assist around the building to whatever she could in hopes of showing that she was serious about working the program. After two months, she landed a job that could become a career. She soon gained overnight visitation with her daughter then received full custody and closing her court case in only four months’ time! Through her hard work and determination, with the help of her support team, she was promoted to a manager position at her job and graduated from CHH, ready to start her new life independently.

Carole’s House of Hope has been home to many women and children. Some have stayed a while, and others have come and gone. As an agency, it is our ultimate desire to help transform all who cross the threshold of our doors. As our vision states, we want to continue to ignite hope in women who have lost hope in themselves and their future; we want to inspire them to work to achieve the change they so badly desire. Moreover, our goal is to inspire them to discover their individual promise, purpose and power to influence their families, impact their communities and change their world. CHH is Forever Family.  Forever Hope.  Forever a Legacy.
