Cultivating Postvention and Survivorship
The 14th Annual National LOSS Team Conference was held in Omaha, October 13–15, 2025. Bringing together 213 LOSS Team members (including our own Metro Area LOSS Team), survivors, professionals, and advocates from across the country for three days of connection, learning, and healing.
Keynote speakers included Dr. Frank Campbell, founder of LOSS Teams, and Martha and Chris Thomas, suicide loss survivors and founders of The Defensive Line. Their powerful presentations set the tone for a conference centered on hope, resilience, and collaboration.
Attendees participated in a wide range of breakout sessions addressing key topics such as responding to law enforcement suicide, developing postvention frameworks for rural areas, integrating art therapy after loss, moral injury vs. PTSD, and community-based postvention initiatives. The Omaha Police Department’s Behavioral Health & Wellness Unit also presented on their integrated approach to mental health and LOSS response.
Self-care was a consistent theme woven throughout the conference. Participants were invited to take part in yoga and meditation sessions, enjoy free hand massages, and unwind in a wellness room offering coloring, puzzles, fidgets, and aromatherapy.
One participant reflected, “I appreciated the variety of breakout sessions of topics and speakers. Everyone was knowledgeable, personable, and gave well-done presentations. I enjoyed the networking and self-care emphasis.”
The conference continues to serve as a vital gathering for LOSS Teams, mental health professionals, and survivors alike—working together to strengthen postvention efforts and bring hope to those impacted by suicide loss.
In 2026, the 15th annual conference will again be presented by The Kim Foundation in Omaha. While the exact location and dates have not yet been set, you can stay in the loop by adding your email address to the LOSS Conference mailing list.
