A Time for Hope & Healing with Dr. Thomas Joiner

Please join us Wednesday, November 9th as we welcome Dr. Thomas Joiner as the keynote speaker at our annual luncheon, A Time for Hope & Healing. The event will be taking place at Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center –LaVista from 11:30 – 1:00. Dr. Joiner’s message strongly aligns with many activities we are currently working on, and we are thrilled to bring his expertise around suicide prevention and research to the Omaha Metro Area.

Dr. Joiner is The Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor in the Department of Psychology at Florida State University and a suicide survivor after losing his father. His education and personal experiences allow him to bring a unique, compassionate perspective to his profession. His work focuses on the psychology, neurobiology, and treatment of suicidal behavior and related conditions. He has received numerous prestigious industry awards and authored or edited 17 books, including Why People Die By Suicide, which will be available at the event. He has made numerous radio, print, and television appearances, including write-ups in The Wall Street Journal and The Times of London, a radio interview on NPR’s Talk of the Nation, and two appearances on the Dr. Phil Show. He runs a part-time clinical and consulting practice specializing in suicidal behavior. And somehow while still accomplishing all of this, he is going to make his way to Omaha, and we are thrilled to host him!

We hope you will join us for this exciting event. We are adding an additional component to our event this year, which will include an afternoon session that will feature a more in-depth discussion with Dr. Joiner, a suicide survivor panel, and a memorial activity for those attending to honor their loved ones they have lost to suicide. Admission to the afternoon session will also include a copy of Dr. Joiner’s book, Why Suicide.

Our community continues to see increased deaths by suicide, and together through education, awareness, and connecting individuals who are impacted by suicidal thoughts or behaviors to the resources they need, we can make a difference and save lives. Please join us for this important community conversation on November 9th. To get registered visit https://www.thekimfoundation.org/a-time-for-hope-and-healing.html.
