Call or Text 988Supporting suicide loss survivors
The Metro Area LOSS team, based on a nationally recognized postvention effort, provides immediate support to survivors of suicide loss.
Members of the LOSS team, which consists of survivor volunteers (people who have experienced the suicide of a loved one) and mental health professionals, are activated by first response officials to the scene of the suicide and are present to offer resources, support and sources of hope to the newly bereaved. Team members follow-up with survivors to help coordinate services and support groups within the community.
Research has shown that through programs such as LOSS, survivors are more likely to seek emotional help and significantly less likely to attempt or die by suicide themselves.
You are not alone
If you have recently lost someone to suicide and would like a call-out from the LOSS team, please contact Colleen Eusterwiemann, Metro Area LOSS Team coordinator for The Kim Foundation, during business hours at 402-891-6911 or LOSS@thekimfoundation.org. If you are in need of immediate help, please call or text 988 to connect with a trained counselor now.
We also have resources available for loved ones and attempt survivors to use and share, including a range of age-appropriate content and information for specific groups, such as LGBTQ+ people and veterans.
How you can help
Anyone can help support survivors and save lives in our community.

LOSS Team application
If you are interested in joining the LOSS Team, please complete the application below. You will be contacted by the LOSS Team coordinator to schedule an interview. This information is maintained in a confidential file and is destroyed once someone is no longer associated with the LOSS Team.
Being a member of the LOSS Team is an incredibly rewarding experience and a serious commitment. We meet the first Tuesday of every month from 5:30-7 p.m., and members must be willing to be contacted whenever the need for a call-out arises. You are not obligated to attend a specific number of visits per year, but we do ask you to be a responsive, active team member.
