Community Resources

Here at The Kim Foundation we strive to pursue our mission to be a supportive resource and compassionate voice for lives touched by mental illness. We continue to find new avenues to better fulfill this mission and to better serve the mental health community, while staying true to our long-time goal of connecting people with needed resources. Fighting the stigma that is too often associated with mental illness and building awareness in the community about this extremely important topic remain top priorities for the foundation.

The major public awareness campaign we are currently running is called “Don’t Be Sidelined”. We have recently committed to extend this campaign for a third year. We are excited about this opportunity and thankful to our partners who play such a key role in helping us spread the message that mental illness is treatable. This campaign is in partnership with Husker Sports Marketing, who provides an incredible platform to help us spread our message. Most of our partners were able to join us at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln last week to wrap up our second year and kick off the third! Everyone left energized and committed to moving forward with this important work. There will be exciting new additions to the campaign this year with an increased exposure at new events and to new audiences, new promotional items to help us spread our message, and an increased focus on helping to start the conversation on mental health for people and to help them understand mental illness is treatable, the first step is to ask for help.

Anthony Steels, former Husker and NFL player, came on board as our spokesperson last year for the campaign, and has committed to joining us again as we pursue this extremely worthwhile awareness work. Anthony has been a wonderful addition to the campaign. He tells his story with such honesty and vulnerability that others can relate to what he went through and know that they are not alone. To hear Anthony’s story and to learn more about the campaign and how you can get involved, please visit www.DontBeSidelined.com.

We are excited to announce another way we are fulfilling our role as a connector of resources in the community. The Kim Foundation will be hosting an organizational fair on July 10th. This came about after sitting through several meetings where agency representatives were frustrated by not knowing who was doing what where, and at times, not knowing where to refer others, or hoping to be better informed so to not duplicate services, as well as a plethora of other concerns. From these discussions, we concluded that a fair where each organization was provided a booth to share their information and network with other professionals during the open parts of the afternoon, in addition to having a few minutes to share their services with a captive audience during a more structured part of the afternoon, would be an effective way to overcome some of these concerns. Spots are limited and we are filling up fast, so if you are interested in being a part of this exciting event, please contact Libby at the foundation at 402.891.6911.

I would like to conclude with a big thank you to all of our community partners in Omaha, Lincoln, and throughout the state of Nebraska. Without each of you doing the incredible work you are doing, we wouldn’t be able to do much of what we do. Together, with our collaborative spirit, I believe we can make a big difference in fighting the stigma surrounding mental illness, while providing effective education to the public, and those of us who serve them!
