Free Suicide Postvention Training Will Be Available in March

The Metro Area LOSS Team, in partnership with LOSS teams throughout Nebraska, will be hosting the first ever Nebraska LOSS Teams’ Conference:  Uniting to Support Survivors of Suicide Loss.  The weekend will provide LOSS team members and the community an opportunity to hear speakers, be involved in panel discussions, and learn about suicide postvention.  The events will take place at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 11615 I Street, in Omaha on March 23, 24, and 25. All of the events are offered free of charge, so we encourage you to register.

The events on Thursday, March 23rd and Friday, March 24th will be open to the public. During the Thursday night session, LOSS Team creator, Dr. Frank Campbell, will speak on how the community can be supportive in the wake of a suicide. There will be a panel discussion with law enforcement, Nebraska LOSS Team members, and local suicide survivors. The session will run from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

Friday’s day-long workshop will be focused on educating community members on suicide postvention. Learn postvention best practices, crisis resolution, how to develop a postvention plan, and how to use words to promote healing. CEUs will be available for LMHPs during the Friday sessions. The Friday workshop will run from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The day-long conference on Saturday, March 25th will be open to all members of the Nebraska LOSS Team. Spend the day with LOSS Team creator, Dr. Frank Campbell, who will be covering topics that include learning how to respond to your community’s unique needs, how to interact and improve relationships with law enforcement, how to respond to culturally diverse calls, and the importance of debriefing and self-care.  The Saturday conference will run from 8:45 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

We encourage everyone to attend the events on Thursday and Friday if you are interested in learning more about the LOSS program or suicide postvention. All LOSS Team members throughout the state are encouraged to attend the conference on Saturday.  If you would like more information on this great opportunity, please contact The Kim Foundation at (402)891-6911 or info@thekimfoundation.org.
