As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I want to express gratitude for the opportunity to step into the role of Interim Executive Director at The Kim Foundation. This new chapter brings me closer to the organization’s mission and vision, a cause I am deeply passionate about. As someone who has long been inspired by the resilience and strength within our Omaha community, I am committed to leading The Kim Foundation with compassion, innovation, and purpose. I look forward to working with the fantastic team of dedicated staff, board, and volunteers to expand our programming and make a broader impact. This is not just my journey, it is ours. With our community partners and various supporters, we can collectively address mental health disparities, suicide prevention, and postvention needs for families dealing with loss. I am excited to collaborate with so many Foundation stakeholders to ensure we make a lasting impact in the fight against suicide.
This year, The Kim Foundation provided suicide prevention education and resources to over 20,000 individuals. The impact is significant, as 98% of the participants reported reduced stigmas related to mental health access and help-seeking behaviors following the program. While we are proud of the mission-driven work, suicide remains one of the leading causes of death in Nebraska. As 2024 nears its end, let us all reflect on the lives lost to mental illness and the work that still needs to be done to support prevention in our community. Together, we can continue to save lives and bring hope to those who need it most.
