Currently in our nation and world many people are searching for other ways they can help maintain their mental health as our definition of “normal” has changed drastically over the past few weeks. It is so important that we all do our best to take care of our mental health during this time. Thankfully, we live in a time where technology is accessible 24/7 for most people. Besides checking in with friends and family on social media, there are many apps available for download which will help all of our mental health.
CALM: A meditation and relaxation app. This app provides guided meditations, calming music, and even bedtime stories. All features of this app are designed to decrease stress & anxiety in individuals and increase productivity and mindfulness.
CBT-I Coach: An app which can help individuals who are dealing with insomnia by providing sleep and relaxation tips. It can be beneficial for individuals who are not dealing with insomnia, but just looking for different breathing tools and mindfulness activities.
Cocoon: A unique app which is available for staying connected to your close friends and family.
Happify: An app which uses a mood-training program to help overcome negative thoughts and enable individuals to live a happier life.
Headspace: Another app which focuses on meditation and learning the skills of mindfulness.
MindShift CBT– Anxiety Canada: An app which helps people learn how to relax, be more mindful, and use active steps to take charge of their anxiety.
MoodTools: An app which helps individuals dealing with depression by having them complete a thought diary and other tools as well. This app also has a suicide safety plan which will help individuals stay safe and utilize any emergency resources if they are in a crisis.
Simple Habit: Another meditation app with the mission of empowering humans to stress less, achieve more, and live better.
Talk Space: An app where individuals can talk with a licensed therapist 24/7 with no appointments necessary.

Katie Zimmerman joined The Kim Foundation in June 2019. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies and Sociology from Central College in Pella, Iowa. During her time in college, she volunteered at many non-profit organizations and took multiple sociology classes which focused on mental health. Katie’s role at The Kim Foundation includes running the social media accounts, assisting in the Youth Advisory Council, and providing mental health awareness and education to the community through A Voice for Hope and Healing presentations.
