Volunteer Spotlight: Jamie Duckert

This month’s Volunteer Spotlight is shining on the incredible Jamie Duckert! Jamie is a cherished member of the Metro Area LOSS Team, a group of compassionate volunteers who provide immediate support to survivors of suicide loss. Comprised of both suicide loss survivors and mental health clinicians, the team is dedicated to offering comfort, resources, and hope in times of unimaginable grief. Jamie has answered numerous call-outs, providing invaluable peer support and making a meaningful difference in the lives of those newly bereaved. She also participates in the annual LOSS Call-a-Thon and lends her insights during new member interviews.

Beyond her contributions to LOSS, Jamie volunteers her time and expertise across other initiatives at The Kim Foundation. As a certified yoga instructor, she has shared her passion for wellness by teaching yoga to our staff and at our Self-Care Fair. Always ready to step in when needed, Jamie is a go-to volunteer who consistently raises her hand to help, often at a moment’s notice.

Thank you, Jamie, for your unwavering dedication to suicide prevention and postvention, and for sharing your amazing heart with us. We are so grateful for everything you do!

In Her Own Words…

Ten years ago, I lost my son to suicide. He was 25 and suffered from Bipolar I. The year preceding his death was tumultuous. I heard about The Kim Foundation from best friends who also lost their son to suicide. I joined the LOSS Team to help others navigate their tragedy. Being named a “survivor” was helpful for me. At times, that’s not how I feel. However being able to help others during this awful time is important.

The Kim Foundation has inspired me to continue my education and include Somatic Experiencing International. This group helps people navigate trauma. We all encounter trauma and the tools to move past or through it are out there. I know my son Kyle has my back and he’s helping me along the way. The Kim Foundation gives us the voice and means to assist others.
