Why I Love The Kim Foundation

By Leah Williams

I first learned about The Kim Foundation (TKF) in 2023 at AFSP’s Out of the Darkness Omaha walk. It was my first walk ever. I nervously wandered around, wanting to find a local organization to volunteer with, and found the TKF booth.

I was greeted by friendly faces, grabbed some resource info (and More Tomorrows wristbands), and headed on my way. After signing up to be a volunteer, I found my place at TKF by helping as creative support and office support. Who knew that coloring could be an impactful way to volunteer? I’ve had the opportunity to assemble resource folders for the Metro Area LOSS Team and create thank you cards and gratitude posters for the Nebraska School Mental Health Conference. I’m so grateful that I found the TKF booth that day. It’s amazing to be part of such a loving and impactful community. My volunteer work feels so rewarding. Not only has my mental health knowledge grown, but I also feel more empowered to talk about suicide in the community, too.
