International Women’s Day

Tuesday throughout the whole world people celebrated International Women’s Day. It is a day to celebrate the many different achievements of women ranging from social achievements to economic, cultural, and political. We recognize that women have faced many inequalities throughout the years and this day is a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

Yesterday social media platforms were flooded with inspiring posts of women who have made a difference. It was inspiring for me to see these posts as the women were not celebrities or well-known people, but the women I saw on my social media platforms were mothers, sisters, friends, daughters, aunts, nieces, cousins, neighbors, etc. The women I saw were amazing women who day in and day out do their best to make the world a better place. Yesterday made me reflect on all the wonderful women in my life. There are so many women that without them I would not be the person I am today.

Yesterday also made me reflect on how many women have selflessly devoted their lives to helping others and giving back. I know so many women who give and give to others but rarely give to themselves. Isn’t it equally as important that we all give to ourselves? That we all take time to take care of ourselves? Taking care of others is a hard job. It can be stressful, exhausting, and at times one does not even see the reward. For these reasons it is critical that each person who is giving makes sure that are taking the time to take care of themselves. We must begin to prioritize our mental health. Our mental health matters. For all the women out there who are pouring their hearts and minds into their jobs, families, relationships, passions, or whatever else lights their soul on fire, please know you are seen, and you are appreciated. Please also know that you also matter a whole lot and because of that it is critical you take time to relax, practice self-care, and give yourself grace.

Even though it was yesterday, Happy International Women’s Day to ALL the amazing women in this world. May you recognize and celebrate all the joy, laughter, and happiness you bring to so many people.
