Volunteer Spotlight: Kayla Kittle

This month’s Volunteer Spotlight is shining on Kayla Kittle. WOW, are we lucky we met Kayla?! In addition to working our Self-Care Fair in May, Kayla spent three days with us in Kearney working the Nebraska School Mental Health Conference! She is beyond amazing, and so fun to be around. Her helpful smile and cheerful disposition got the team through the conference!

We asked Kayla a few questions to better understand her motivation to volunteer:

Q: What do you enjoy about volunteering at The Kim Foundation?

A: I enjoy the opportunity to give back to my community, especially in the realm of mental health. TKF does incredible work spreading awareness and support, and I’m thankful I can be a small part of it.

Q: What drove or inspired you to volunteer with TKF?

A: Once I realized my passion for mental health, I decided to go back to school to become a therapist. I wanted to get involved with TKF to start fueling my passion – helping others, and begin learning as much as I can about the field through firsthand experiences.

Q: What drives you to be a volunteer (in general – not just for TKF)?

A: I am fulfilled through helping others (and animals), and it is amazing to directly see the impact my time is making.
Q: What’s your favorite way to practice self-care?

A: In my free time I enjoy journaling, reading, getting outside, coloring, and hanging out with friends as well as my kitty June!

Q: Anything else you’d like to say about volunteering, mental health awareness, suicide prevention, the foundation, or your hope to work in the mental health profession?

A: Mental health awareness is incredibly important. I really am so thankful to be a part of TKF, as they are actively combating stigmatization and being a light to all. This organization is saving lives through informing others and participating in suicide prevention efforts. I’m excited that I’ve started my journey to becoming a therapist, and am thankful one of my first endeavors has been with TKF. I would encourage everybody to give back in some way, whether that’s with your finances, time, or being a light to others and spreading information. You will never regret helping our fellow human race!
