13minutes
The Kim Foundation, along with Region 6 Behavioral Healthcare, is excited to announce our new public awareness campaign focused on suicide prevention. On average, someone dies by suicide in the U.S. every 13 minutes. Taking this into account, and the overwhelming effect it has on our community, we are excited to announce the launch of the 13minutes campaign in the Region 6 area mid-August, just in time for back to school.
An Epidemic
The opioid pain drug Fentanyl recently made headlines when it was named as the cause of Prince’s death in mid-April. While it is still unclear whether Prince had a prescription for the legal synthetic pain drug, the drug carries high risks and is tightly controlled by the Food and Drug Administration.

It was a jam-packed three days of meetings with our delegation, informational sessions with national leaders, networking with peers and colleagues from throughout the country, and advocating for those impacted by behavioral health issues from our community.
Depression: What to Say to Someone You Love
While depression is still a subject that many people try to avoid talking about, nearly seven percent of American adults have experienced at least one major depressive episode. Do we avoid talking about and addressing depression because of the stigma and misunderstanding still surrounding mental health, or is it because we are simply afraid we may say the wrong thing to someone who has depression?
CDC: Suicide Rates Have Increased Since 1999
According to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide in the United States has increased 24% from 1999 through 2014.
